NCB Capital Impact, sponsor of The Green House Project, has partnered with Perkins Eastman to create the new Green House
Prototype design, which is available to licensed Green House Project adopters. The Prototype reflects The Green House Project’s operational and architectural lessons learned to date from its many operating homes around the country. It also reflects a design that has been carefully crafted to deliver a comfortable and efficient environment that fosters the Green House principles of convivium, independence and dignity.
The Prototype has ten private resident rooms, each with its own full bathroom and European shower. Rooms are designed to accommodate a resident’s personal furniture and their preferences regarding its placement. Most resident bedrooms are located off a private corridor, similar to a traditional house.
The entry sequence into the house is based on a well-established progression of spaces that one finds in most houses: sidewalk, porch, foyer, and living room. A country kitchen, which is always accessible to residents, anchors the great space where the main dining room and inglenook are located. Care has been taken to introduce natural light into the deeper spaces in the home, so that there is always a sense of connection with the outdoors. A screened porch, an open porch and a patio further enhance each resident’s ability to enjoy the outdoors. Adjacent homes can be paired around a shared garden to stimulate the feeling of a neighborhood and to allow residents or caregivers to easily spend time with their neighbors.
